Pre-Clovis sites are archeological sites that suggest humans were in the Americas before 15,000 years ago. There is a pseudoscientific trend that says human civilizations like ours existed long before the Paleolithic era, and that we just haven’t found all the evidence yet.
I desperately want pre-Clovis sites to be leftover from earlier human civilizations, because then maybe we would find evidence of humanity surviving a near-fatal mistake like human-made climate change. But the evidence simply isn’t there, and the picture of human evolution that we have is very coherent.
Given all the evidence that we have, humanity is the only intelligent life in the universe, today’s global civilization is the most advanced we’ve ever been, and we’re prepared to make all sorts of fatal mistakes.
There’s no guarantee that we’ll survive human-caused climate change, or global nuclear war, or the next pandemic. We desperately need to fix our decision-making on all fronts to face these challenges.
I expect our work with TechLit to equip thousands if not millions more people to help, but that’s not enough. Things only improve if you improve them. We need more people improving our chances of survival.
